Children's Portrait: "La Castanyera"

I made this quick drawing a couple of weeks ago of our little neighbors dressed as the "castanyera". Their mother made the costume for them with scarves tied around the body and a headscarf. I think they looked gorgeous!

A new paper house with a garden

The third model in the New England collection is inspired by the Knowles Doane house, located in Eastham (Massachusetts). As always, I had been peeking around the building a bit previously in Street View and liked the idea of reproducing the front yard in miniature.

I have rediscovered the pleasure of drawing vegetation, although I think that the arrival of spring and the fact that Bruno only wants to be in the park day in and day out also have something to do with it. I hope you like the details of this little house!

New England church model

Hello everyone!

I have finally finished the next model in the collection, the church. Initially, it was inspired by the Little White Church in Eaton, but I always like to change the volumetry and colors a bit during the process.

At the same time, I have started working on a colorable cardboard village for small children, I hope to be able to show you the process soon.

Did you know that our little Bruno already walks? Truly, time flies!

Hey friends! A new model is finally here. This is house no.2 of the New England collection.

The inspiration for this one was Captain John Kendrick's House at Wareham, which was built around 1745.

Lately I've been working on improving the tutorials. Instead of posting them directly on the blog (which takes a lot of time and there are quite a few technical errors each time) from now on they will be in PDF format with a link to view them.

Happy week to you! :-)

What I'm up to

Hello everyone!

No new model this week I'm afraid. Just a few updates of life in general.

I have had a bad cold for days, just nasal congestion and no fever but enough for me to want to stay in bed all day long. Of course, this can't happen with little Bruno crawling around the house and getting in trouble. I have found a useful tip though, whenever I feel exhausted and stuffy nose, I do 10-20 squats. Yep. You have read correctly. My nose instantly unblocks and my body activates, and I can continue with my housework. Give it a try!

As for Bruno, he now loves the Russian doll that my grandmother brought me when I was little. It's in that phase of fitting things inside others, so it's the perfect toy. He's also been reaching the piano keys for a while now if he's standing up, and he loves copying his dad.

I have some recommendations for this week. Last Wednesday we went to the cinema with some friends and saw Kenneth Branagh's Belfast. Although we are all very different ages (30 to 70+ years old), we all loved the movie. That doesn't happen often to be honest, so I highly recommend it.

My readings this month are also being a hit. I always have two books started, one educational and one for entertainment. The first one is The Artist's Way For Parents by Julia Cameron. I am devouring it. I think I'm going to give it to all of our friends who have children. The other one is Paula, by Isabel Allende.

My paper houses have found a semi-permanent place on top of the aforementioned piano, which my great-grandfather built by the way. My paternal family had a piano factory in Barcelona, called Chassaigne Frères. Unfortunately, it burned down decades ago, but we still have a few pianos in the family.

Have a happy weekend!

I am embarking on a new adventure! A paper town inspired by the typical Georgian Cape Cod houses from the mid-1700s to the late 1800s that can be found all over New England

For those of you who have been following me for some time, you may have seen the old version of this model at my Etsy shop. I decided to go back and change the illustration style, from colored pencils to gouache. I had to redo practically all the work but in the end I am very happy with the result. Below you can see some details of the model.

*New* Colorable gingerbread house in the shop!

Another week goes by and I have decided to upload to the shop the gingerbread house in a colorable version. I promise I'm done with the pending Christmas tasks... Finally.

This morning I went out with my little one for a walk (I intend to go out more often to enjoy the good weather) and I came back completely exhausted. I guess I should get in shape. Argh.

Have a lovely day wherever you are in the world!

"Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man." -Benjamin Franklin

Hi friends! I haven't updated in a long time.

As you may have noticed, I have a new website. The wordpress system was driving me crazy and I decided to go back to the classic and static blogger :-) It also has a more personal tone, for now I like it a lot.

Although I am well aware that it is not Christmas anymore, I had yet to finish this gingerbread house model. The same thing happens to me every year, I intend to do a thousand things for Christmas and I just can't finish them. Does it happen to you too?

Gingerbread houses are not a tradition in my country (I wish), but I find them delightful. I hope you enjoy it!
